GCCLC Speaker's Bureau

We are in the process of developing a Gold Country Computer Learning Center Speaker’s Bureau, whose members will go into the community to share information about the computer classes, workshops, seminars and user group meetings we provide as a Learning Center. A steering committee of six people will prepare material, offer speaker training, and keep the data bases current. Speakers will be selected from our members who will commit to a small number of hours per year, thereby allowing more people to participate in activities other than teaching or coaching.

We are soliciting your help in compiling our master list of county-wide organizations that would be receptive to a short informative program about our organization and the services we provide. We ask that you submit the names of three, or more, organizations – either ones you belong to, or ones you think would benefit from hearing about our program. With seventy-eight volunteer members on our roster, we anticipate there will be some duplicates. Part of the GCCLC committee’s work will be to categorize the list by type of organization, i.e., fraternal, social, religious, homeowners associations, etc., so that each presentation can be tailored to a specific audience. When you submit your list, you may indicate whether you would like to do the presentation to your own group. Any list submitted will be kept confidential as to the person who submitted the names. We will provide training, handout material, and do all the notifications required. All the speaker needs to do is commit to a small number of hours per year, the exact number of hours will be determined as we go further into the program. We want to involve as many of our members as is practical to keep it a fun experience, and not be construed as a burdensome task.

By providing this outreach, we will accomplish several objectives stated in our Mission Statement: To provide top-notch computer training at a continuing low cost to everyone who wants to know how to utilize all the benefits derived from being a knowledgeable computer user and, by becoming better known for our fine reputation in the community, we build a support base that we may be able to call upon for additional financial support.

We have provided computer classes, seminars, workshops and user group meetings for over eight years, during which time more than 3000 students have benefited from our programs. We know this is only a fragment of the number of potential students. This year, we have broadened our student base to include those wanting to enhance their employability by improving or learning new computer skills. However, the first step is to compile the list of organizations for our speaker presentations. Upon completion of this task, we will have further articles available to keep you informed of our progress in developing this new program.
